Santa Clara is home to the headquarters of many tech companies and while it is on its way to becoming a very urban area there are still plenty of parks and other greenspaces for us to enjoy! Critters like gophers, moles, and voles find a way to thrive in these urban settings by invading our yards. Let us help you protect your landscape by taking care of these critters!

Gopher Control

How do gophers get in our yards? A lot of people don’t realize that there is a whole other society of animals living below the soil every day. Gophers create elaborate tunnel systems and they can easily dig way down deep under sidewalks or driveways. Gophers move around in search of their own territories and food so that’s when you’ll see them show up in your yards.

Mole Control

Similar to gophers, moles are burrowing animals that also leave behind pushed up dirt and create huge underground tunnels. Moles can actually dig up to 17ft per hour so they are truly little bulldozers. They tend to prefer areas with moist soil that’s full of worms and other little insects for them to eat.

Vole Control

Voles, unlike gophers and moles, do not fully live underground so it’s more common to see them on the surface. They are small, fast mice so they are easy to miss. They do make little underground nests and will often take over old, abandoned gopher and mole tunnels to do so.

FAQs

What are common signs of gopher damage in Santa Clara yards?

The most common sign will be the pushed up piles of dirt. These piles will not usually be accompanied by open holes unless they’re very fresh. Gophers don’t like to leave their tunnels exposed for long so any openings will be plugged up with dirt fairly quickly.

Another common sign to look out for is the decline or loss of your plants. Gophers eat away at the roots of plants so small ones can die very quickly but larger shrubs or trees will take time to show signs of decline.

Do you offer both gopher and mole control in Santa Clara?

Yes, we do! We offer the same service both gophers and moles actually. We do a trapping service where we place lethal traps underground with the tunnel system of the critter then we just keep checking and resetting traps until there are no new mounds popping up! There are some differences in size of trap that we use and the timing of our follow up visits depending on if it’s gopher or mole activity but otherwise the methodology is very similar.

How long does professional gopher control typically take?

There’s not a simple answer to this unfortunately, we’re hunting wild animals so there can be a lot of variation. Most often we are able to catch the gopher(s) within a couple of follow up visits but if there is a lot of activity it can take longer.
