Grubs & Their Role in The Ecosystem

April 15, 2025

What Are Grubs?

Grubs are the larvae of June Bugs. The adult bugs lay their eggs in the lawn during the early summer months. Then as the larvae grow they will eat away at the thatch layer of the lawn.

Why Are Grubs Harmful?

As the grubs eat away at the thatch layer it can damage and even eventually kill a lawn. Animals like raccoons or boars can also rip up lawns in search of these grubs.

How do They Affect the Ecosystem?

Grubs are a food source for many animals! Like we mentioned boars and raccoons will eat them but birds and moles do as well.

What Can You Do About Them?

Our horticulture team does offer some treatments for grubs as part of our Lawn Care Program! We also offer a one time trapping service for moles if you see their mounds appear. You can also place fruit tree netting over your lawn area(s) and that should deter raccoons and birds from digging at the lawn as well.
